I purchased the Etekcity lantern for camping a few years ago and really liked it so this time I ordered 4 more with the magnetic base. I find these lanterns well made and easy to use. It is a excellent lantern and it is perfect for power outages, camping etc. and with a magnetic base it will be handy in the workshop too. I would highly recommend this product. I gave one to my neighbour who is a senior and he liked it, because it gives off more light than a conventional flashlight.

I purchased these as a gift for my elderly parents and they are very happy. Compact and bright.

This review is for the CL30 4-pack.These lanterns have an excellent overall quality. As soon as I received them I tested all four, and the light output is incredible-- more than sufficient to light a 12 foot by 16 foot room with a single lantern from my testing. That said, the dimmer switch is helpful because the light output is beyond what is necessary for walking with it in hand.The construction of the lanterns feels sturdy and durable. The handles click in to place when not in use with and hold the lantern securely closed so that no battery power is wasted. The lid to the fire starter compartment also fastens securely closed with a click, and the battery compartment lid can be rotated until its very snug and water-tight.The included fire starter with each lantern has a clever, compact design wherein the scraper can be screwed in to the rod's container to give more leverage when striking the ferrocerium rod. After reading up online and practicing with the fire starter I have found the most reliable method for creating sparks to be:-Scrape off the black coating on the rod to expose the silvery metal underneath-Hold the blade of the steel scraper perpendicular (90-degrees) to the rod's surface-Point the rod in the direction you want the sparks to fire-Quickly drag the scraper along the length of the rodBe aware that the black coating is to prevent oxidation/corrosion of the ferrocerium so be sure to store it in a dry area if you scrape it off, or hold off on scraping it until you need to start a fire.The only possible improvement could be slightly stronger magnets at the base, but I have still found the magnets to be just strong enough to hold the lantern sideways or upside down on most metal surfaces (even slightly curved ones like a stainless steel trash can) as long as the lantern isn't touched or blown on by the wind.Overall an excellent product and an exceptionally good deal for their current price ($28.99 for 4).

I own both this set as well as the previous version that lacks the magnetic base and dimmable light. Both are spectacular for light on a walk, within a tent, at home instead of candles (when electricity fails) or as an alternative to a flashlight. Depending on the your purpose for light, both are great options. For this light, the magnetic base functions exactly as described, and the dimmable light feature is a bonus that I highly appreciate when in a tent or sitting at an outside table.The light is sufficient to work in close range, but can be a little blinding if you are prone to staring into lights. This is the nature of this type of lantern; as light is cast in a 360 degree circle. That circle makes it a little difficult to use the lantern as a spot light, but that is beyond its intended purpose. These are lightweight, the construction is solid, no loose parts, and it feels and appears to be quality made. I keep these on a shelf for emergency purposes, but they help when walking at night to the shed, or going to the car, or whenever I prefer to cast a greater array of light around a patio table. The dimmer button is a great improvement.One caution about the magnetic base is that it picks up iron bits in the soil. It is simple to clean off, but just be cautious if you are going to place it on your nice dining table after having placed it on the ground. I highly recommend Etekcity products, as I have yet to have one fail on me.
